Welcome to my web site. I hope you enjoy browsing through the pages and learning more about psychological services and how I might be of assistance to you. People are often very curious about what happens in therapy. The information on the following pages should help answer some of your questions. If you have never been in therapy, be sure to see the page entitled “Misconceptions.”
Here are some of my thoughts about what leads people into counseling and my role in our relationship:
We all want to be happy and have fulfilling lives. Being human, however, sometimes we do things -- or we get into situations -- that make life difficult. My job is to listen carefully to what you have to say, help you figure out what you want, and assist you while you work toward your goals. Often this means finding alternative ways of handling people or situations, developing better coping strategies, and increasing understanding of yourself and others.
My goal as your psychologist is to empower you to make the changes you decide are best for you and your loved ones. Please take a look through this website, and then give me a call at 210-698-1100 or send me an email at Dr.Odom@mac.com.
And if you have never been in therapy and/or are a bit nervous about calling -- I know it is sometimes difficult to ask for help or talk about private matters with someone you don’t know. You are the only one who can decide if it is better to wait or get started taking better care of you. What I have found in my own life, and what research in psychology consistently shows, is that the sooner we take action to improve situations or prevent bad situations from occurring, the easier it is to reach satisfying outcomes.
